Domesticity

We haven't always had the best relationship. I mean, we've had our ups and downs, that's for sure. I've been so frustrated at times I've stormed out and said I was not going to deal with it anymore. But inevitably, we make up and things go back to normal. No, I'm not talking about this guy:

I'm talking about me and my kitchen. Cooking/baking has never really been my thing. Why spend time in the kitchen, when you could spend it...pretty much anywhere else? Now that I'm married, I feel a little bit more responsibility to learn how to cook so I can feed my family one day. Meanwhile, Jacob must suffer through my experimentation. But things are looking up for me and my kitchen. After the great crock pot potato disaster of 2010, I've made a few steps in the right direction. Like, these delicious red velvet cupcakes with homemade cream cheese frosting!

And this orange chicken:

And a dish called Johnny Marzetti:

Wow! I know my mom feels proud that she must have instilled some good sense in me. (Despite my many years in college of eating quesadillas, mac & cheese, and frozen dinners.) My mom did try and teach me some things about cooking...but I didn't necessarily like being told what to do (I am still a little bit stubborn on occasion) and leaning to cook was a few too many rules to follow I think. Lately, I've also found that I really like...grocery shopping. Yeah, it's pretty fun when you use coupons. For example, this trip:

All these items were going to cost around $76.00, but after coupons and store discounts, it came to $35.00, which is 54% savings on this trip! Yeah, it's dorky that I posted my shopping trip. But so fun! This is the site where I get my inspiration. Cooking and grocery shoppping...who knew.

P.S. I have tried for weeks to get Jacob to write on our blog about Grandpa Parry's funeral to no avail. Future posterity, if you would like to read about his funeral, please go here. I guess I'm not the only stubborn one...

  1. Good job on learning how to cook. I had a few disasters early on too (most of them were when we were having other people over for dinner...not good). That Johnny whatever dish...is it really that yellow? 'Cause that's really bright.

I've tried couponing but I can't find any "Georgia Deals" type sight that caters to the stores here. Audrey told me about Krazycouponlady.com but a lot of those stores are only in the west.

  2. Laura, I love reading your blog. Especially when Ben adds commentary while he reads it to me: "And Jacob had to suffer through my experimentation... with drugs." Hahahaha. But in all seriousness, this is fun to read. Hope you are doing well.

  4. You can cook for me anytime. Eliza always says she doesn't know how to cook but she just doesn't want to cook. Your food looks really good. I have never been able to make myself take the time to coupon. I really admire people like you who do though.

  5. I like how my mom took a moment to throw me under the bus in her comment. I neither like to cook nor have the natural aptitude, but I suppose I could probably manage to throw something together if I had to. I am impressed that you are working at it.
